The Russian River Fire Protection District is a combination paid /volunteer organization providing fire, rescue and emergency medical services to approximately 18 square miles along Sonoma County’s beautiful Russian River.  A five member board governs the fire district which is home to world-renowned Korbel Winery and Vineyards and Northern California’s Armstrong Redwoods State Park.  The District lies approximately 70 miles North of the city of San Francisco and lies between Santa Rosa and the Pacific Ocean.

The district staff includes 11 full time employees: A Fire Chief, an Administrative Assistant, one Battalion Chief, two Captains, three Engineer/EMT’s, three Firefighter/Paramedics, five Volunteers, and six Firefighter Interns.  The District has two fire stations, 1 of which is staffed 24/7.  The second station is housing for reserve engines, a community post office and meeting room.  The District operates 10 pieces of equipment ranging from ALS ambulances, fire engines, a water rescue craft.

The District has a full time population of approximately 5,000 residents with an additional 10,000 seasonal visitors.

Neighboring communities include Forestville, Monte Rio, and Cazadero.  The District ALS ambulance covers an area roughly 300 square miles in size, including the communities of Timber Cove, Fort Ross, Jenner, Monte Rio, Forestville, and of course Guerneville.

There is an annual call volume of 1500 calls.  Over 80% of the call volume is medically related.  In addition to emergency services, the District provides education and training to the community and actively conducts and participates in Fire Prevention and Public Education.
