ABOUT THE DISTRICTS

The Bodega Bay Fire Protection District has 11 full-time professional positions, which includes: Fire Chief, Exec. Administrative Assistant, three Captains, three Firefighter/Paramedics and three Firefighter/ EMTs. The Fire District covers approximately 34 square miles and provides ALS ambulance service to an additional 250 square miles. The Fire District runs approximately 550 calls annually. The Fire District operates out of one station, built in 1997.  The Fire District population varies from approximately 2,500 full time residents to 20,000 people during tourist season. 

The Russian River Fire Protection District has 11 full-time professional positions, which includes: Fire Chief, Exec. Administrative Assistant, three Captains, three Firefighter/Paramedics and three Apparatus Engineer/EMTs.  The Fire District covers approximately 16 square miles and provides ALS ambulance service to an additional 350 square miles. The Fire District runs approximately 1500 calls annually. The Fire District operates out of one station, built in 1965. The Fire District population varies from approximately 7,500 full time residents to 25,000 people during tourist season. 

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to: responding to fires; hazardous materials; rescue and medical emergencies; maintain, test and operate tools and equipment; perform fire station and grounds maintenance; participate in training drills; participate in public education and fire prevention activities; prepare reports and carry out other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bodega Bay / Russian River Fire Protection District-Firefighter/Paramedic      

Minimum age: 18 years old.

Current State of California EMT-P License/National Registry Accepted.               

Sonoma County EMT-P Accreditation (desired, but required at time of appointment).                  

CSFM Firefighter-1/or equivalent.                                                          

High School Graduate or GED.                                     

Valid CA Driver’s License, class C, (Commercial or Firefighters class B preferred).                      

Current ACLS and PALS (PEPP) certifications.                          

Current BCLS or CPR certifications.                                           

Current DMV Printout (within 90 days).                                                                           

Current 12 Lead EKG certification, Coastal Valleys EMS Agency approved. 

 ICS-100, S-130, S-131, S-190 as required by CICCS.                                                                 

Valid CPAT card.

Russian River Fire Protection District-Apparatus Engineer/EMT

Minimum age 18 years old.

Current Sonoma County EMT/National Registry Accepted.                     

CSFM Firefighter 1/or equivalent.                                              

High School Graduate or GED.                                     

Valid CA Driver's License, Commercial or Firefighters class B.                           

Current BLS or CPR certifications.                                              

Current DMV Printout (within 90 days).

CSFM Fire Apparatus Operator certification.

ICS-100, S-130, S-131, S-190 as required by CICCS.

Valid CPAT card.

Applicants must successfully complete each phase of the testing process.  Failure to do so will disqualify the applicant.  Applicants who pass all phases of the testing process will be placed on an eligibility list for one year.  Candidates considered for appointment will be required to undergo a physical, pre-employment drug screening and background investigation.

The Russian River Firefighter Intern program is designed to help individuals obtain their California State Firefighter I certificate while also obtaining real world skills and knowledge necessary for success in the fire service. No previous firefighting experience is necessary. After successful completion of a five week, 55 hour basic academy, (Fridays 7-10 pm, & Saturdays 8am – 5 pm) Firefighter Interns are assigned one 24-hour shift per week. In addition to the 24-hour shift commitment, the Firefighter Intern will be required to attend monthly drills as assigned by the training coordinator, which includes one Saturday drill and one Thursday evening drill.

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but not limited to: responding to fires, hazardous materials incidents, rescues and medical emergencies. Maintain, test and operate all firefighter tools and equipment, assist with daily fire station duties, participate in training drills, public education and fire prevention activities and carry out other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

- Must be 18 years old

- High School Diploma or GED

- Valid California Class C driver’s license

- CPR/First Aid

- EMT-B Certification or proof of enrollment in EMT course, must be a certified EMT-B by course completion

Desired Qualifications

- Currently enrolled in Fire Technology classes

- Completion of a Firefighter Academy

- Experience as a volunteer firefighter
